Hello there! We had a great trip to Whistler- a fabulous end to spring break. If you want to see all the pictures from our trip, you can
find them on Flickr here. Here's a quick overview of our trip....
We left Thursday night and made it door-to-door in just over 4 hours! We hit basically no traffic, it was amazing! Friday morning, we woke up "early" (early for Bryan, that is), and were on the 4th gondola up the mountain.
We skied pretty hard Thursday, saw some beautiful sights, and really got our ski-legs underneath us. The groomed snow was awesome (they had been dumped on earlier last week), but the off-path stuff was a little chunky and hard to manage. We were fairly pooped by 2:30 and made it down the mountain in time for the outside apres-ski "jug" of beer.
Saturday, we again got up early to beat the crowds and get a full day of skiing in. On Friday, we went to Blackcomb, but decided to ski Whistler on Saturday. The snow on Whistler was amazing. Not too much untracked powder, but the groomed snow was great and off-path snow was way better than Blackcomb. Crazy! Saturday skiing, there was not a cloud in the sky. It was gorgeous. We stayed on the mountain basically until the end on Saturday. I had a little spill, but more on that later.
When we came down, there weren't any outside tables, so we went back to the hotel, changed, and then waited patiently (because we weren't in our ski boots anymore!) for a table. We got one at our favorite post-ski watering hole, the Irish pub. Fun music abound.
Sunday, we had to pack up the skis and come home, but were happy to see our doggie who was pooped after a weekend up in the mountains (thanks mom & dad!).
Well, to finish off the spill story.... I somehow had a weird spill not going fast, but just hit a bit of hard to manage snow, tumbled, somehow lost my pole and ended up face planted into the snow with my skis sticking 90 degrees into the snow! My left thumb was a little sore and then began turning fun colors and got all puffy. By Monday after school, my thumb got worse, and well....
It's broken. Not sure how long I'll have to stay casted up, but I go to an orthopedic doctor tomorrow because the break is at the joint. LUCKILY, it's my left hand, but I am learning that these opposable thumbs are quite useful... who knew? Oh well, who needs to tie their shoes anyway?
Besides the leftover thumb issue, we still had a great trip. It didn't stop me from skiing the rest of the day Saturday (wonder who I got that from, mom?!?), and it really doesn't hurt too badly, so that's a positive.
Bryan and I don't get all that much time off together, so it was just fabulous for us to get away and do something that we both really enjoy. Yay for skiing and yay for Whistler!
